Thomas Kinkade his art and his life
By Jim Odom of Art of the South
Thomas Kinkade, the art and the artist As a dealer and owner of several Thomas Kinkade art galleries, I am amazed at how many people there are in America who have made hateful posts on various Blogs. I certainly understand that there are varying artistic tastes and not everyone appreciates the same style of art. But I have read scathing articles that go far beyond simply liking other art to pure vile hatred. Not everyone likes ice cream. But most people who don't, rarely go out of their way to try to persuade others to join them in their dislike. It seems sometimes as though the "elite", so called art experts, believe that their view and taste for art should be held out to be superior to the views and tastes of "commoners". Seems to me that the true test of the greatness of an artist is how well received their art is by the public. There is a saying that people vote with their pocketbooks. If an artist is good, people will buy his art. If he is not so good, he is sometimes refered to as a starving artist. Thomas Kinkade is definately not "starving". He has become the most collected living artist in America. Some of Kinkade's early work have a very different "feel" from those paintings he has done more recently. Later work by Kinkade seems to have a much bolder palette. He has started using brighter colors and including more and more flowers in his art. With the change in style, his popularity has soared. |
